Normal water level

Based on my observations (which are by no means scientific) I don't think the water levels fluctuate 6-8 feet. I think maybe around 4 feet would be more accurate.

I would say that the extreme variation would be 6-8 ft. Maybe not that much in any one year though.
Rough? I've seen what seemed like 8 ft rollers coming into the causeway at Edwardsville, when the wind was right. Nothing I would want to be out in; but that's extreme.
