Panfish

I am heading up later next week for a few days and plan on fishing for panfish at least 1 day. Last year I did try for panfish for a few hours and only caught dinks. I was using maribou jigs tipped with a waxworm. Does any one have any tips for depth/structure for a starting point?

Also, Can any one offer me some insight on this scenario...
3 guys panfishing in a boat, is it legal to place our catch in the livewell together, or do they have to be on a stringer to keep a taly on individual limits? (wishfull thinking of getting into some nice gills).
