I'm going to be fishing Black Lake on October 1st and 2nd. I would really appreciate any hints or tips on locations and lures to try. I'm mostly interested in Smallies and Pike..Thanks

I have fished only twice in early October. This time of year is very hard for me. I think it depends on water temp, color, depth. Ive tried senkos, jigs top water lures and everything in my tackle box just to end up with just worms. This fall I'm only going for the relaxation and view of the fall leaves. Don't be surprised if there is a little ice in still parts of the lake. It has been know to happen. Good Luck

I would advise drifting the bays and throw spoons for pike. Bays like big bay and lonesome bay are usually good. If you find weed tips a few feet down and run a spinner bait or johnson minnow tipped with a red pork rind you are bound to get a northern and now that its getting cooler LM bass too. For SM I would try using cray fish in 10-20 FOW in rocky areas like the narrows or devils grave yard. Good luck and watch out for duck hunters.
