Walleye spawn in Rosie??

Post by Tori » Fri Mar 16, 2012 11:42 am

Anyone know if the walleye run up to Rosie is underway?? With the warm temps I think it should be earlier than usual. We have caught some in the Genesse River near Mt. Morris and we think they were in the area for spawning....too easy to catch. We caught these fish before the season closed yesterday.
Thanks, Tori

Not yet. But I'll bet the next two days will bring it on, for sure. Water needs to be 40 - 45 and it was 39 at the causeway yesterday. I'm sure this rain and the 70s coming the next two days will bring a shot of warmer water through the Indian River, raise the temp and turn the eyes on. 8)
Time to start looking for some perch in the St. Lawrence.

So - I was a few hours early yesterday when I found no fish running.
I heard that the walleye showed up "in force" last night. With a steadily warm temp forecast, it's likely to be a good but short run.

What time is best. I've always heard about this but have never seen it. After dark? Need a flashlight?

Any time is good. If you go after dark and use a good strong light, their yes light up like bright copper pennies. Easy to tell there a LOT of fish in there.

Even though work takes me up here often, it is still hard to get over during this time period. Could one of you who is able to see the spawn take a video and post a link to youtube for the rest of us?

Nothing like being there, but I tried. Hundreds of Walleye stacked up like cord wood!
