The temperature on that camera always seems to read higher then what it actually is too. So it was probably even several degrees colder then that.

Web cam says that it's -20 now, ice will be three feet thick and won't thaw till August if this keeps up! LOL

Showing -24.7 this AM - that should get the ice firmed up :big-grin:

I think that temp (weather station) is a calibrated unit that is verified by the Weather Underground. Not sure, but I think so.
Temps can vary widely from spot to spot. I know that driving to Canton every day I see a low reading on my truck thermometer in the same area most days.

If you look at the regional surface temperatures around the area you can clearly see that the Black Lake Camera consistently reads higher then it should. Here are some good links that shows official temperatures around the area. http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php ... suedby=BTV http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/ALY/RWRALY

For instance right now:
Fort Drum -10
Watertown-9 (-35 at 6:56am) http://w1.weather.gov/obhistory/KART.html
Ogdensburg -4
Syracuse -3
Rome -7
Black Lake Cam +2.6

Watertown Airport and Ogdensburg are about the same elevations as the Black Lake camera. Black Lake is between the two in Latitude with no other obvious reason for it to always be warmer.

Could be it's in an "ecological niche'". 8)
