Looking for some Crappie!
I live 3 hours away and have never fished Black Lake.
Can anyone tell me where to find them?
Also, the DEC web page has the max depth at 40 feet but the topo only shows 10.
Is this correct? And if there's a 40 foot area, where is it?

OK...first there are deep pockets around only in the south end so first pick up a hot spot map. Around devils grave yard and the east side of Lonesome bay, the narrows and a few more at the points around big bay. However looking for crappie is not hard at BL fish around the rocky islands and rocky points also along the wood line at the southern most end of the bay next to Chapmans. Good luck! Forgot to say BL has special restrictions on size 9" min I go by 10".

Like Bob-O mentioned - get a FIshing Hotspots Map for Black Lake. Shows all the info you will need. There is one other "deeper" area on north end; being near the end of the lake almost to where it joins the Oswegatchie River.

Phil,
The deep hole in the north.....right by the closed bridge? Have you ever pulled fish from that deep spot? I never seem to even catch pan fish out of that hole.
