Boating Safety Course

Post by Karen13 » Tue Jun 17, 2014 10:33 am

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will host a NYS Boating Safety Course cosponsored by The Black Lake Association and the Black Lake Fish & Game Association. The course is 8 hours, typically split into two 4-hour sessions, and includes certification and a NYS Safe Boating textbook. The cost is $35 per person, with family discounts available. Dates and times of the training will be determined once a minimum of 10 people is reached. Interested parties should contact Karen
Winters, Black Lake Association 315-440-6508 or kwwinters@gmail.com or Larry Kring, Black Lake Fish & Game through BL Facebook page.
A New York State law effective May 1, 2014, requires individuals born on or after 5/1/1996 to successfully complete an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat. Individuals less than 10 years of age may not take this course of instruction. Individuals may not operate a personal watercraft (JetSki, SeaDoo, etc.) unless
they are at least 14 years of age and hold a boater safety certificate. For more information, check out the website:
