The studies and facts are already in on the cormorant and the devastation that they cause. This is why DEC action has been taking place in various areas of the state. Oiling of the eggs and destruction of their nesting sites is and continues to occur on the Saint Lawrence River, Oneida and other lakes. They are truly a menace and should be controlled for the sake of any fishery. Catch & Release!

As you are fishing on the River, take a look at the islands where the cormorants nest and roost. They look like wastelands. Those birds destroy all of the vegetation where the nest. I'm not sure how or why, but they do. Its disgusting.

I do agree with some earlier posts about the walleye fishing being quite good these days. I think though that has a lot to do with all of the stocking programs that have been going strong for many years now. And the fact that young walleye tend to live a whole lot deeper than bass and pike, safer from the birds.
