Looking for info re: HAB (Algae Blooms) and general water quality.

Hi!, My family has been coming to Black Lake for like 45 years. But we haven't been in the last 12ish years. We are planning a trip this august, and just were told that NYS no longer certifies Black Lake as safe to swim in.

As we hoped to ski, swim, and eat fish, this is concerning us and I thought I would ask on here for a better idea of how concerned I should be?

What is the water quality like right now? Do people still swim/ski/etc? Is it currently low or high? Much appreciation for any advice/thoughts!

The lake gets green in August and is full of tiny organic matter. It kind of looks gross but it's not dangerous.

You will see pockets of bright green looking algae. Stay away from that - it's not healthy to get that stuff on your skin.

I let my kids swim and go tubing ... as long as you avoid the green algae you'll be fine.
