Came up to Black Lake last weekend, did alright. Fished Rollaway Bay, didn't catch a thing. Also fished just off Bowman Island, got a few nice Pike on tip-ups and one jigging. Caught alot of small perch, about 1 in 5 keepers. Plan on coming back up in Febuary. Looking forward to it, also where would a nice spot to catch some Crappie be?

Fished around a few of the islands on the main lake today. Lots of "dink perch"! Nice day - very tough going for ATVs (Big ATVs). 8 - 10" of snow with a lot slush pockets. Good ice underneath - 10 - 12".

I'm impressed with the tire screws I put in; instead of using tire chains. Didn't know about them until today.

Pike-Buster - I have not seen or heard much of anyone getting into the crappie this winter.

Hey Phil, nice article in the Outdoor News. Been down in the "bay" lately? Be a couple before I'm back up

Maybe tomorrow, will see how the conditions are for the drive up the lake. I'd like to hit the narrows to try for some walleye.

Fished Jan 29, 30 and 31 - Fishing was SLOW. All in all still a good trip. Several jacks with a few pike in the 28 -32 inch range. Ice conditions were very slushy on Saturday and Sunday, around 10 inches of good ice underneath, just north of the webcam in upper Big Bay. Monday morning temps were about -12 degrees, that firmed the slush up somewhat. Hope the upcoming snow doesn't mess up the conditions for you all. A few pictures for all wishing to be on the ice! Can't wait for the last week in July :)

We kept four of the large pike for a meal, all the rest were returned to the lake to get bigger for this summer. Good luck all!

Looks like a nice couple of days. You are right about the slush factor though - tough conditions on the lake.

Lake is now about as bad as I have ever seen it; for getting around. We got dumped on again last night - about 8" of wet stuff on top what ever was there. There won't be many wheeled vehicles moving around lake for a while. We really need a good thaw if we are gonna get back out there. Maybe I'll go look at one of those Skidoo Tundra Long Track machines. 8)

Lots of snow and slush. What are you wanting to fish for and how are you going to do it? Jigging, tipups,?

With this weeks warming temps, I wonder what kind of conditions I can expect when we come up next week? Would all of that snow melting on the surface make it more favorable for hiking across, or create a ton of slush?

Well, we'll see about that. I am hopeful things will improve, dramatically. I am sure that if we can get some "cold" weather after the warm-up things will be all good again. If it warms enough to turn everything to water, the ice will "float" and the water will be underneath - let's just hope for the best.
