June 11 - 17 Fishing Report

Post by Dendz » Thu Jun 23, 2011 4:05 pm

Spent a week of great fishing. Targeted pike in the weedy bays. Got one 30" and one 28" with plenty of smaller ones all week long. Most on white spinnerbaits just above the weeds. Tried walleyes in deeper water and got nothing. Had a few windy days where the whitecaps should have grounded us, but we went anyway and tried to get into the calmer bays. Going back up in mid-September. Never been there in the fall. Looking for any tips and locations for fall fishing.

Did you get into lonesome bay for pike? Some of it was tuff to fish last year.

we were catching pike in the 4.8 ft to 5.3 ft depth///water temp was 75...we fished below the tubes and hammered them just past the first marina on down that shoreline...all shallow water tho...nothing over 6 ft depth...and they were hitting red daredevil and little cleo spoons the best...and the yamamoto black 5" worms with blue sparkle done up in a wacky rig we slammed bass this week...biggest was 6 lbs.

I'm not sure what the "Tubes" are. Is this a location on Black Lake? Also, I dont have any experience with September fishing in Black Lake. Can you give me some insight?

Dendz,
Keep an eye on when duck season opens. I went up in the fall some years ago and there were duck hunters set up in every bay. The weather was nice and after the summer fishing season things sure do quiet down on BL.
Catch and Release the big ones!!

Bob-O
Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to research when duck season is scheduled.
