Another year in the books

Post by Roger Over » Tue Sep 06, 2011 8:36 pm

Was up from August 27 till Sept 5 with our host and Captain , Lumpy. Always a good time whether the fish are cooperating or not. Saturday was an interesting night of fishing. We went out early off rasberry and hooked a smallie and a few perch and rock bass. Went back in for dinner and later after dark went back to rasberry and boated of all things a 28 pound carp. The rest of the week was quiet until early thursday with only panfish and a few small bass and a nice smallie about 3 pounds and 18 inches. Friday and Saturday saw more rises and hits but hookups were not happening too often. Our crew seems to agree the bite seemed off probably because of hurricane Irene and the heavy algae bloom in the parts of the lake we normally fish.Tried many spots this year that we havent fished in the past as well as our normal go to spots that always produced in the past.Weed mats, edges shoals and deeper holes were all fished topwater mid depths and bottom with both natural and artificials with mixed results but topwater out produced everything else, especially frogs in pads and mats. As a group we realize that the lake is ever changing and last years hot spot might not be so hot this year. Thats what makes fishing here fun and challenging.
All fish were released including the aforementioned carp.
