Fishing report 5-4 to 5-10

Post by Bob-O » Sun May 06, 2012 2:22 pm

Target fish: northern pike, water temp: 51F to 55F (south of bridge) Party size: 3. Arrived Friday the lake was perfect however pike opens tomorrow. Saturday morning wind picked up drifted throwing spoons picked up a few larger than 20” one was 27” and very heavy nice fish for first morning red and white daredevil, to get out of the wind we anchored behind an island an jigged for perch. We picked up about 20 or so nice sized ones in an hour. Went back out for the evening and the action about the same, still windy but drifted throwing spoons and picked up a few more larger than 20”. The guys looking for crappie have been sitting in the woods and they are catching them, not in large numbers but none the less getting them. Sunday morning more of the same, lots of wind but still getting a few larger pike. The last two days have been overcast to sunny.

We will be here until Friday and will post as much as I can. It’s great to be back and see all our old friends around camp. Bob

Thanks for the update Bob. We will be up in 2 weeks again and any info helps. I'll be sure to do the same after our trip for everyone fishing after us. I've been waiting for 50 weeks to get back, but these last 2 seem to take forever!

Is that the "cow" bus in the north end of the lake? Another bus?

Report for Monday 5-7. Water temp 55-58 (south of bridge) the weather was perfect!! Light chop filtered sun. We caught 15-20 northern pike nothing over 22” but loads of fun. All went back for a perfect release. We set our keeper size as the trip progress’s, slowly raising the size. The color yester day was perch. Anything with yellow and orange and black strips was catching them. I caught a beautiful crappie on a four inch spoon!! I’m glad I didn’t rip through it’s lips thinking it was a northern. A few tips: If you don’t own a lip spreader get one! This is a tool that opens the pikes mouth so you can easily remove the hook wit out damage. Another tip is when you finish a retrieve don’t lift your lure without dangling the lure before you pull it into the boat. We had a few that grabbed the lure doing this and it’s really cool when looking down and seeing a big head dart out and grab it.
It’s Tuesday and this morning the weather was not so good. Lots of rain and wind that just was not something we wanted to fish in so a trip to Alex bay was the ticket. Now it’s about 3pm and weather is much better. The rain has stopped and the wind is much better. We will be out on the lake in a few minutes.

damn 100 fish. do you guys fish for anything but perch? LOL. You can sit on the log cabins dock and fill a bucket in no time. Hows the water level? Can you fit under the bridge without being able to touch it ? Ha ha.

You do not catch may 11-13" perch from the docks. Also caught crappies, bull head, pike, ling, sunnys. Do not fish north of bridge, plenty where we are. Also caught some of those things called bass, 14-18 inch.
Lake is not as high as last year.
