9/01-9/07 Trip

Post by toddfore » Sun Sep 09, 2012 5:20 pm

Just back from yearly trip and I must say that the weather was the best I can remember in 10 years. Light wind and only 1 day of rain. Hard to believe we were at Black Lake. Here's an over view of the trip for the 2 of us in a boat:
Sat.: only arrived so fished the afternoon only. 11 total w/2 keepers
Sun.: 10 total w/3 keepers
Mon.: 21 total w/5 keepers
Tues.:9 total w/1 keeper
Wed.: 17 total w/6 keepers
Thurs.: 20 total w/3 keepers
Fri.: 30 total w/13 keepers
All fish were released. Couldn't latch on to a pattern despite the stable weather we were having. Caught some on shoals, some on outside weed lines, some on inside weed lines against the shore and a few on topwater. Couldn't get an consistent topwater bite and did miss a lot of hits. Seemed like the hits were short. Fished 7am-12noon and 2pm-6pm. Used tubes, senkos, and crankbaits, for the big majority. Almost equal numbers of keeper lg. mouth to sm. mouth. Biggest lg. mouth was 3lb 10oz. and sm. mouth was 3lb. 1oz. Had quite a few 2lb. 14oz-3lb smallmouth. Seemed to need weeds nearby to catch fish. Thanks to the advance in electronics, we were able to locate the Church shoals. No weeds present and we didn't catch anything off of them. Anyone have any luck there? Can't wait till next year!
