Late July tips?

Post by dbatt99 » Fri Jun 26, 2015 11:02 am

Hi, my family and I will be going to Black Lake July 18-25 and was wondering if anyone could share what works for them this time of year. In past years Ive caught most of my bass on either a dropshot rig with a crab or a senko but the fishing has always been tough for us. Also I was looking to maybe go for some pike and catfish this year if anyone could share what they use for them that would be great. Thanks

I can recommend fishing the Sunnyside side of the bridge for bass and crappie. It is usually out of the prevailing winds and always has cooperative fish.
Try 1/8th ounce painted jig heads with a Berkley Gulp Minnow... the 2.5" and 3" ones in pearl or watermelon pearl. Use 4# or 6# line on a light or ultralight rod.
The local tackle shop had the stuff last time I was there if you don't have it.
Fish the deeper areas adjacent to the causeway rip rap. Cast out. .. reel in slow... set the hook. Easy peasy.
