We are planning to come up so long as our VRBO cabin is open. We are unsure about boat rental options at this point, or where to launch the one boat we bring, or if we can buy live bait. But, come hell, high water or microscopic bugs, we are coming!

The 585 crew is coming up. Will be in compliance with the executive order regarding social distancing and masks. No COVID19 contact or symptomatic issues.

Can't wait to get out of the house and do some fishing.

Anybody know if the State boat launch is open?

Any information on bait availability?

Are restaurants open for take out?

Stores open fir business?

WOW! I just spoke with the site I have been going to for some 30-years Pleasant View? Who advise me they will be open 5/1, cabins ready, docks are in, she went on to explain that they are considered a essential business like an hotel - so unless the governor advises otherwise we on for 5/21-5/27.

I fished the lake on Monday. The water was about 54 degrees, but the weather was cold, cloudy, and windy in the morning. Perch were definitely biting!

Driving up and down the road I saw most camps are open as usual. The Log Cabins store was open and most other little places looked open too. Restaurants are mixed. Some are closed completely, some are open for take out only, but none are open for sit down.

From the folks I spoke with, sounds like there are definitely some renters in the cabins .... but I saw very few boats actually out on the water. I fished from Conger Island all the way to the Oswegatchie River and saw no more than ten boats all day. The docks looked a lot more empty than normal for the pike opener.

It seemed to me that the area is open for business, with certain limitations and restrictions, but there weren't nearly as many people as normal.

Obviously if you have a trip booked, call the camp and confirm, but it sure looks like nobody's Black Lake trip this year will be cancelled.

Whats weird I live in the Bflo./Niaga Falls region and took a trip down to Chautauqua lake to fish, a region much like the Black lake region. Much was closed-up and it didn't look like any resorts were opening up for the season. I left scratching my head trying to figure out how the blk. lk. region is doing it. I'm 50/50 on rather or not I will be doing our annual trip. My 79 yr. dad has pulled out the first time in 30 yrs. Its a bit weird on if we go or not. The way the weather has been the crappie should still be pre-spawn by the time we get there 5/21-5/27. Are the bait shops open log cabin etc.

Stay safe.

Spent four (4) days fishing BL between Sunday, May 3rd through Wednesday, May 6th. Mornings were very cold (30 degrees) and the wind had its typical BL influence. Wednesday was the best day with the pike bite being unbelievable! All pike were in the 24 to 30 inch range! It did seem that there were less boats out.

Good luck to all this year!

Weather forecast for the next 2-weeks should turn on the crappie for the week of our arrival 5/21. Instead of our normal 5-days we will do 3-full days there, traveling home on memorial day, traffic should be light on that day.
I will report out after our trip.

Stay Safe!
