Black Lake

Post by Phil » Sat Jan 16, 2010 11:26 pm

Fished today for northerns- really slow. Two us caught one pike at about 25" and we had three other flags in 6 hours.
Ice is still 10+" and the snow has been reduced to about 4" of slush. Once it freezes up the ice should be good for traveling. Lots of vehicles out on the ice today - driving everywhere.

Black Lake Fishing

Post by Phil » Thu Feb 11, 2010 9:48 pm

It's not that I have not been fishing - I have - lots of ice and vehicles driving everywhere on the lake. It's been a really slow bite. I call it "mid winter blues". Things will pick up again in a week or two. The first two weeks in March will be awesome.
I'm about to take a week vacation and am headed to Oneida Lake for 4 or 5 days to see if I can find and catch a few "eyes" :D

Thanks for the info. Been ice fishing every week this year and biggest pike we have caught was 29". So now I have an idea what it takes to win if I was to enter a derby. Chippewa's is Saturday.

Can someone help me find the results for the chippewa bay ice fishing derby this past weekend? I don't care who won, just want to know the sizes.

Thanks

Maybe I am wrong here and I am not looking to start something but isn't that 2nd place crappie in the panfish division short and if it was brought to the weigh in then obviously it was possesed illegaly.

Fish Tv is the only way to ice fish. What an incredible feeling knowing this pike was just a few feet below us under the shanty. Too bad our skill wasn't better than his just enough to catch him.[/img]

change the pictures dimensions to 80 x 60 is what I did. I don't remember the program we used but paint would work I think too.

This is a little late but here goes. Fished the lake the 13th, 14th & 15th. GREAT TIME!!!! Ice is about 14 to 16 inches thick - in Upper Big Bay about 400 yards north of the web cam. Off and on action all 3 days. Between the 6 of us fishing we probably caught around 40 to 50 northerns. We kept 12 of the larger ones - nothing smaller than 26 inches. Our largest was just shy of 35 inches and weighed in at 9lbs 6oz. A few others were in the 7lb to 8 lb range. Many people fishing trucks, vans & snowmobiles all over the lake. Fun was had by all!!! Can't wait for the summer trip -- only 156 days to go!!

Yes - there must be something mixed up there, I'll check into it and modify the results. Funny, I did not see that.

Chapman's sells $6 pike minnows that are 3 inches and $9 pike minnows that are supposedly larger. Many times they look the same size.
