Opening Weekend

Post by Phil » Sun May 02, 2010 5:45 pm

Fished Black Lake from noon to 4 Saturday, for walleye; came up empty. :(
Went out on the St. Lawrence today for 2 hours and hit 3 for 4, buddy 0 for 2. All were "shorts". Maybe I'll head back out this evening for a couple of hours. :D

Stayed at chippewa from 7:30 am till 6pm. Was going to head to black lake, but didn't. I caught 4 large mouth, 1 smallie, 3 perch and 3 pike. All on the same lure. I switched lures a lot throughout the day but to no avail. All were caught on a Mepps red and white Number 2 with no skirt. My favorite lure of all time. Chippewa was ridiculously shallow. My buddy caught 4 very small perch on the same lure and nothing else. Saw a brown garpike, lots of carp, a HUGE pike that we didn't get, and had a great time.

opening weekend

Post by redvers lewiston » Tue May 04, 2010 8:29 am

We had twelve guys up there this year and we caught almost 200 pike between us. A lot of small ones but a few 27" and up including a 30" and a 33". The fish looked pretty healthy but I noticed that a few of the pike had clams in there belly. They'll have a hgard time digesting that. We also caught 2 walleye on being 26" and a 10 lb catfish. A good time this weekend

The tape we had went out to 40". It was a good 5-6" past the end and wieghed 22.5lbs. There are fish all over the place in Black. We have been going since 05, and book a trip every year.

I would say "nice fish" but it seems to fall short. All I can say it that I'm praying I can beat our family record of 32 inches. I don't care if it's 32 1/16", I'll be jumping up and down in the boat. Not to bright on my part, but I never claimed to be. If I didn't release the big ones, I'd probably be jumping up and down on a 29 incher in hopes to squeeze out an extra few inches.

By the way, which side of the lake did you catch it on, North or South?

All the big ones my buddies and I have caught have come up north of the bridge. The biggest one we got this year was 33 and 1/2 inches.
