fish report from 5/10/2010

Post by racing11111 » Wed May 19, 2010 4:11 am

Well where do i start . well the fishing was awesome we had great weather . the crappie bite was heavy about 200 per day but ran on the smaller side. we averaged around 30 to 40 keepers per day between 2 of us. the pike fishing wasnt that great quite a few hammer handles and 1 35 incher not a bad fish in size either right off our dock. walleye fishing was very slow but did manage a 22incher while driffting a worm harness for them . the perch were attacking our harnesses horrible which kept the walleye from hitting it. we cought 3 absolute monster bowfins like 6 to 8 lbs and 30 inches long, hate them though boy do they fight. we also managed 1 big channel cat on a pike shinner around 8 to 10 lbs.and last but not least the BASS WOW couldnt keep them off our line no matter what, and they were big 3-5 lb smallies and 3-6 lb large mouths . we also cought may rockies and blue gills all on perch minnows. so we mostly fished the gap between raspberry island south to the indian river. i heard that some guy cought several walleyes in deep water around the narrows. my friend saw him land a few. i can only hope that next year will be as good as this year was, only that the walleye bite is better and the pike are larger and mabee some day we mite land a monster musky.we have been going for over 10 years now . hope to have many more . GOOD LUCK TO THE REST OF YOU ON THIS SITE. Any questions i will try to answer as fast and accurate as i can.

Nice to hear some stuff is biting good even if it's not the pike. Were you using Lures for the pike and Bass or live bait? Well........ Pike, I know you can't target bass, but you know what I mean. Were you targeting weeds, rocky points or deep?

Thanks Racing

I also wouldn't mind knowing what the bass were eating. Glad to here that you had a good trip. A month and a half left for me.

well guy the crappies were on structure like fallen down trees and around large boulder rocks near shore on the south end.as for the Bass they were eatin our crappie rigs which are a 1/32 painted gum ball jigs #6 hook tipped with a perch minnow and a non weighted balsa bobber. The pike were mostly cought using shinners about 5in long but we also used chug bugs and cought pike and lg mouths. unreal huh using top water in early may. we saw the fish rising thats why we tried the chug bug , my favorite top water lure and it only gets better as the water gets warmer.water was around 62 in the bays and coves in the high 50s in the middle of the lake. hope you all have good luck like we did.

Thanks Racing,

I'll let you know how we do next week. We will be in the northern part of the lake, so it will be different, but I'll try to put in as good of a report as you did.

Talk to you soon.
