Re: First Ice
I'll go along with the first ice contest.
My pick is December 14th.
Rules? Here's what I think we did in a past year -
By view of the 2 webcams. The lake must be "iced over" and remain that way for 1 week.
I'll volunteer to keep watch. One cannot choose a date that has already been chosen; and no changes will be acknowledged. Those posts will be ignored.
In the event that one cam is down, we will use the other; and in the event both cams are down, we will call the contest off.
We will use this thread to keep track. I will tally, the replies with dates to another, locked, topic for easy tracking.
The winner will get honorable mention and an unbelievable amount of gratification.
My pick is December 14th.

Not to be a spoilsport, or anything - but I plan on being on the ice (hopefully about 6" of it) fishing by Xmas day.

Re: First Ice
For the sake of fishing, I hope I amwrong too. I was just picking a date that felt right with the weather. I don't see it getting cold too awfully fast this year. How long with freezing temps does it take for the lake to get 6,8, or even 10 inches of ice built up? I am ready with fire wood so if it is a lot earlier I would be happier as well. Ice fishing here we come.
