Is anyone catching crappies and what are the water temps now?

Sombody gotta have some info on the crappie fishing and current water temp?

Did not get out. Don't like rain! It'll have to wait till the weekend, for me. Went out tonight and got loaded up on night-crawlers for the Walleye opener this Saturday.

Phil are you fishing black lake for walleyes this weekend?we will be there on friday. guess we will poke and hope on the crappie.

Phil if it is choppy try drifting with a lindy rig and nightcrawlers this works well for us when the lake is rough and also seems to help us find the fish. Someone has to know what the water temp is all it takes is a thermometer thrown in along side the dock. I find it hard to believe that no one is fishing this lake right now just cant believe no one has said anything about levels and temp we are 4 hours away and always help others with questions about lake any info is greatly appreciated thanks and good fishing

I don't really care about the water temp all that much. Except that it will tell if the fish are spawning, about to spawn or all done. The water level is never a big deal - just have a look at the two cams on a regular basis and you will know.
Right now it is rising but not at any kind of all time high.
Choppy - I don't mind. 4 ft. swells will keep me off the lake.
That's all I do is troll and drift bottom bouncers with spinners and worm harness. Make my own. Works on Black Lake and in the St. Lawrence River. I am not a night time fisherman either. If I can't get them during daylight hours, they can stay in the lake
When the water in the lake gets warmed up, I head to the St. Lawrence.

I was just curious about temp because it helps me locate crappie. Ive done best when water is between 58 to 62 . this is a fact last year water was 54 and crappie were really elusive just was curious and appreciate your help this site is helpful and am looking forward to hitting lake and st lawerence. I still have better luck with that technique than any other. Where are the walleyes? That's the question.

Have an aqua vue may try to use it a little this year.. has 50 ft of cable use it alot to find perch in the fingerlakes may work in black lake for walleyes. Shocker u are right shiners in future are the way to go way too many dink perch in black lake and this always has puzzled me and others on our trips as they are one of the best eating fish and pike eat them. Not sure why they are so abundant with all the fish eating predators in the lake.

Phil Have you tried the old black hair jig. Back in the 60,s they worked well. Went through my dad,s old box and found some. Going to give them a try.

Can anybody share reports on the above I've been coming up there for the past 25 years so am very familar with the lake - but with the early spring I was wondering. I will be there from 5/16/12 - 5/21/12

The lake,s loaded with walleye some lakes like Conesus and Rushford you can only catch good numbers at night.
